Re: Hiphop, Cuba and the International community Peace and much love.
First allow me to say thank you for your contributions to educate this forum on common news. However, I would like to add that I actually know both Diaz sisters personally and have also seen this and several other documentaries on Hiphop and its manifestations in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Uganda, South Africa, Palestine, Israel and Russia.
I am very intrigued by these documentaries and in no way discredit these individuals for their hard work and dedication. But what many of them lack is the proper point of reference and continuity with the "ORIGINS" of Hiphop, Hiphop culture, its elements and expressions. This is very unfortunate because what we continue to see ailing Hiphop culture and American culture in general is merely being exported to other countries and cultures via Hiphop exploitation.
Be clear, Hiphop in all its manifestations includes but is not limited to; breakin, emceein, deejayin, grafitti art, beatboxin, street language, street fashion, street knowlege and street entreprenuerialism. So with this said I would like to add a quote that has been said by KRSONE and amplified by ALL of Hiphop's pioneers and founders. "Just because you witness any of Hiphop's elements does not mean you can accurately interpret and present the element you have witnessed!" KRSONE
Furthermore, this is all to ensure the integrity of a culture and its people who continue to be cheated, raped, undermined and exploited at the expense of its own character and collective respect. Again, continuity, consistency and point of reference is what would enhance these documentaries so that we can ensure the same conditions do not replicate themselves elsewhere.
Finally, we should be careful lending our likeness, images and excellence when it can be used against us in the long term. If you have not mastered, perfected or participated in Hiphop, its elements or expressions; then we should scrutinze the nature, scope and integrity of that person and project. Remember, we are not just doing Hiphop; WE ARE HIPHOP!
P. proper E. education A. always C. counters E. exploitation
There it is.
